As people come to terms with the knock-on effects of the coronavirus outbreak, local newspapers across the country have joined forces to reassure readers of their support.
Using the hashtag #ThereWithYou, the collective aims to help keep communities together, particularly the elderly and vulnerable.
Today (20 March), across the front pages of local newspapers owned by publishers from Archant to Reach, JPI Media to Iliffe, the words ‘When you’re on your own, we are there with you’ are printed.
“Regional newspapers are the fabric of our communities,” explained Matt Kelly, chief content officer at Archant. “They have been for generations, good times and bad. And we are at our best when our communities need us most, as they do right now.”
The campaign is supported by industry bodies the News Media Association, Newsworks and the Society of Editors.
“In these difficult days, weeks and perhaps months, our role in providing vital and trusted news and information, putting people together and publicising good causes of all kinds has never been more vital,” added Toby Granville, Newsquest’s editorial development director.
“And we want to do our part to support the most vulnerable members of our community.”
