How long have you worked in affiliate marketing and what is your current role at Acceleration Partners?
I have worked in affiliate marketing for over a decade, working across several performance-based channels both in house and on the agency side. I am currently a Senior Account Director in Key Accounts at Acceleration Partners.
What got you interested in affiliate marketing?
My original interest in affiliate marketing stemmed from when I was working for a brand. Some of my closest colleagues and mentors had worked within affiliate and I found so many synergies between affiliate marketing and some of my other performance-based marketing and business development roles.
Right as my interest was peaking, a job within the affiliate channel opened up and I was asked if I wanted to come on board and manage the channel, to which I jumped at the opportunity!
What is your favorite part of your job?
One of the things I love about this job (and this industry) is just how quickly things change. Affiliate marketing of yesterday is not what affiliate marketing of tomorrow is going to be. In order to be a true expert of affiliate these days, you need to have a foundational understanding of how other paid media channels work.
There is a convergence happening now in our industry that is creating cross-pollination amongst so many paid marketing channels. This presents a real opportunity for our clients, our media partners and us as affiliate managers since the opportunities are vast and the learning potential as e-commerce marketers is endless.
What’s your favorite part about working from home?
Working from home has been a game changer for me in terms of allowing me to be the best version of myself across all facets of my life. I am a mom to a 5-year-old and 2-year-old, with my 5-year-old having several medical complexities.
Working from home has allowed me to maintain a career and our lifestyle, while also giving me the space to be an active and present participant in doctor and therapy appointments. Acceleration Partners has allowed me to continue to fill both important roles of my life and has given me the ability to not have to choose one over the other.
What has surprised you about remote work?
One of the things that surprised me going from a 100{da2ef7ff2781dfb5887db3e3a6cf03c7c894e23a27536de3f64bd799872794d1} office-based position to a fully remote position was just how much of a homebody I am! In my younger years, I craved seeing other people, finding out what they were wearing, hearing other voices around me, etc. Today, I have come to realize just how much I value the quiet and stillness of working from my home.
Having a “co-worker” that has four legs and sleeps under my desk all day is another added perk. I have also found that I am able to achieve more in the same amount of time, thanks to not having certain distractions that only an office can bring. I have been incredibly humbled by just how much my career has accelerated since being at Acceleration Partners and working in a remote environment.
If you could have an extra hour of free time every day, how would you use it?
Reading or doing yoga. Finding an hour of “me time” is hard to come by as a working mother to two young kids, so if I had an extra (uninterrupted hour) in my day, I would use it on something just for me. Reading a book, yoga to center the body, soul, and mind and to allow my brain to check out for a 60-minute period. Not to say that I don’t do these things already, but they can be a bit sporadic and certainly never a full 60 minutes without any interruptions.
Finally, if you could be in the Guinness Book of World Records, what record-breaking feat would you attempt?
That depends on if I am basing it off my current capabilities or my desired capabilities. If I were basing it off what I am currently capable of, I would love to attempt to beat the world record for sampling the largest numbers of vineyards. There is nothing quite like exploring the grounds of a vineyard or sitting in an Adirondack chair outside on a beautiful day with a glass of wine.
If it is based off a capability that I wish I had, then I would love to have the Guinness world record for the fastest tennis serve by a left-handed woman. Tennis is a hobby I have recently come back to and is something that I am hoping I can continue to focus on in a bit more of a competitive setting.
